GENERAL LEGAL COUNCIL MADE ON COMPLAINT
NO. 31 of 2009

IN THE MATTER OF BENJAMIN LEWIS vs HOWARD LETTMAN

AND

IN THE MATTER OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION ACT 1971

DECISION DELIVERED ON THE 12TH FEBRUARY, 2011

UPON THE APPLICATION dated 6th February, 2009 made under section 12(1)(a) of the Legal Profession Act coming on for hearing before the Disciplinary Committee on the 13th November, 2010, 4th December, 2010 and 12th February, 2011

AND UPON the complainant Benjamin Lewis appearing and having given evidence on oath

AND UPON the Attorney Howard Lettman appearing and having admitted to the charges against him

AND UPON DUE CONSIDERATION of the sworn affidavit evidence of Mr. Benjamin Lewis coupled with the admittance of Counsel to the charges against him.

THE COMMITTEE FINDS: the complainant has proved his case. In the circumstances the Committee finds that the Attorney Howard Lettman is guilty of professional misconduct in that (1) He has not provided the Complainant with all information as to the progress of his business with due expedition, (2) He has not dealt with the complainant’s business with all due expedition

PURSUANT TO THE FOREGOING FINDINGS THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY HEREBY ORDERED THAT:-

Pursuant to s 12( 4) of the Legal Profession Act

  1. Mr. Howard Lettman pays a fine of $150,000.00 of which $50,000.00 is to be paid to Mr. Benjamin Lewis.
  2. Mr. Howard Lettman pays costs of $25,000.00 to the General Legal Council.
  3. Both fine and costs are to be paid to the General Legal Council on or before 25th Day of March, 2011
