UPON THE APPLICATION DATED 12th April, 1999 made under section 12(1)(A) of the Legal Profession Act coming on for hearing before the Disciplinary Committee on the 2nd December, 2000 and 23rd June, 2001
AND UPON the complainant Muriel Logan appearing on the 2nd December, 2000 and 23rd June, 2001 and having given evidence on oath
AND UPON the disbarred attorney-at-law not appearing on the 2nd December, 2000 and on the 23rd June, 2001 and having not given evidence on oath
AND UPON DUE CONSIDERATION of the evidence of Miss Muriel Logan
THE COMMITTEE FOUND the disbarred attorney Mr. Leeland Playfair is guilty of professional misconduct in that he has acted with inexcusable or deplorable negligence in the performance of his duties as an attorney-at-law, and that he did not deal with the complainant’s business with all due expedition contrary to Canon IV s and r
PURSUANT TO THE FOREGOING FINDINGS, THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY HEREBY ORDERED THAT:-
- Mr. Leeland Playfair pay a full refund to the complainant of all fees paid amounting to $10,000.00 (Ten thousand dollars)
- Mr. Playfair pays a fine of $20,000.00 (Twenty thousand dollars) to the complainant.
- Mr. Playfair delivers forthwith to the complainant the Wills of Olgin Williams Moodie and Carl Moodie and Duplicate Certificate of title registered at Volume 369 Folio 69 and all other documents.
- The name of Leeland Playfair be struck off the roll of attorneys-at-law entitled to practise in the several courts of the Island of Jamaica.
- Mr. Leeland Playfair pays costs in the amount of 25,000.00 to the General Legal Council.
This order is made under section 12(4) of the Legal Profession Act.
