CLPD Seminars

Pursuant to the LEGAL PROFESSION (CONTINUING LEGAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT) Regulations, 2013 each attorney-at-law must participate in a prescribed number of Continuing Legal Professional Development (CLPD) courses and activities during each year.

Please note that as from the year 2014, any attorney who commenced practice on or after October 1, 2012 must, during his or her first three years of practice obtain a minimum of sixteen (16) CLPD credits consisting of not less than six (6) credits in a CLPD course in ethics and client welfare and two (2) credits in business management and finance. All other attorneys must obtain a minimum of twelve (12) CLPD credits consisting of not less than four (4) credits in ethics and client welfare and eight (8) other credits in any CLPD course.

The CLPD Committee of the GLC is committed to maintaining a continuing programme for the presentation of seminars in the compulsory courses of Ethics, Client Welfare, Business Management and Finance but will also present courses from time to time in other CLPD subjects.

Attorneys of 1-3 years in practice are required to pay $2,000.00 per session of 2 hours while attorneys over 3 years will pay $4,000.00 per session of 2 hours. However, there are special reductions for particular presentations which will be announced from time to time. Attorneys who wish to participate in any of these seminars are urged to pre-register by completing the Participant’s Application Form provided and sending it the GLC office or by e-mail to clpddirector@generallegalcouncil.org and making payment online or by cheque or money order.

Please note that most of this Committee’s CLPD offerings will be repeated in the Corporate Area, Mandeville, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. Click the links below for the application form and more information.
