Queen’s Counsel Mrs. Denise E. Kitson was recently elected as Chairman of the General Legal Council (GLC).
Mrs. Kitson who was admitted to practice in 1982, was appointed as Queen’s Counsel in 2013, now holds the distinction of being the first woman to have become Chairman of the GLC.
After a short stint at the public bar, Mrs. Kitson entered private practice in 1983 at the firm Grant Stewart Phillips & Co., where she continues to be engaged, principally as a litigator.
Since 2002, she has tutored Civil Practice and Procedure at the Norman Manley Law School.
Mrs. Kitson has been a member of the Jamaican Bar Association (JBA) since her admission to practice, and she has served as a member of the Association’s executive body, the Bar Council for six years where she was the Association’s Honorary Secretary for five of those years.
Mrs. Kitson was also appointed as a member of the Advisory Committee of the National Land Agency as the nominee of the Jamaican Bar Association.
She continues to serve the JBA as a member of its Commercial Law Committee.
Mrs. Kitson has been a member of the General Legal Council since 2010 and she currently chairs both its Accreditation Committee and Information Technology Committee.
