GLC Policy on Public Notifications

It has been brought to the attention of the General Legal Council, that notices have recently been circulated purportedly issued by the General Legal Council stating that an attorney at law who conducts a legal practice in Jamaica is “…currently under investigation by the Jamaican Bar Association and local law enforcement officials for misconduct, theft and other illegal activities…”.

The public is hereby advised that such a notice was never issued by the General Legal Council. Further, the Council does not issue notices of this kind.

As the Legal Profession Act requires that disciplinary proceedings are to be heard in private, the General Legal Council only issues public notifications when the disciplinary proceedings have been completed.
