COMPLAINT NO: 199/2017

UPON THE APPLICATION made under section 12 (1) (a) of the Legal Profession Act and dated the 12th day of November, 2017 coming on for hearing before the Disciplinary Committee on the 29th September and 27th October 2017

AND UPON the Respondent Attorney-at-Law Carlton Melbourne appearing

AND UPON the Complainant Hilary Reid appearing

AND UPON the Respondent Attorney having admitted to committing breaches of the Legal Profession (Accounts and Records) Regulations for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 contrary to sections 16 (1) and 17 of the said Regulations.

AND UPON the Committee finding that such breaches by the Attorney Carlton Melbourne amounted to professional misconduct contrary to section 12(1) (a) of the Legal Profession Act.

PURSUANT TO THE FOREGOING FINDINGS THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY ORDERED THAT: –

The Attorney-at-Law Carlton Melbourne should pay a fine of $30,000.00 for each year he was found to be in breach of the Legal Prof€ssion (Accounts and Records) Regulations 1999, plus costs of $30,000.00 amounting to a sum of $120,000.00 to be paid on or before 31st December 2018 to the General Legal Council.

The Attorney-at-Law Carlton Melbourne paid the total sum of $120,000.00 on 24th December 2018.
