UPON THE APPLICATION made under section 12 (1) (a) of the Legal Profession Act and dated the 2nd day of August, 2017 coming on for hearing before the Disciplinary Committee on the 3rd February, 2018, 14th April, 2018, and the 5th May, 2018.
AND UPON the Respondent Attorney-at-law Jacqueline Minto not appearing on the 3rd February, 2018 and 14th April,2018 respectively but having her Accountant Earl Russell appearing on the 14th April 2018 and 5th May, 2018 she having appeared on the 5th May, 2018
AND UPON Complainant Allan Wood, Q.C. appearing with his Counsel Candice Williams on the 3rd February, 2018 and 141h April, 2018 and having appeared without Counsel on the 5th May, 2018
AND UPON the Respondent Attorney having admitted to committed breaches of the Legal Profession (Accounts and Records) Regulations for the years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 contrary to sections 16 (1) and 17 of the said Regulations.
AND UPON the Committee finding that such breaches by the Attorney Jacqueline Minto amounted to professional misconduct contrary to section 12(1) (a) of the Legal Profession Act.
PURSUANT TO THE FOREGOING FINDINGS THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY ORDERED THAT: –
The attorney at-law Jacqueline Minto should pay a fine of $50,000.00 for each year that she was found to be in breach of the Legal Profession (Accounts and Records) Regulations 1999, plus costs of $50,000.00 amounting to a sum of $800,000.00 to the General Legal Council on or before 29th June, 2018.
