DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE OF THE GENERAL LEGAL COUNCIL
ORDER
COMPLAINT NO. 162/90
In the matter of Orville Stephenson
and Melbourne Silvera Attorney-at-Law.
In the matter of the Legal Profession Act.
UPON THE APPLICATION DATED the 22nd day of October, 1990 MADE UNDER 12(1)(a) OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION ACT coming before the Disciplinary Committee at a hearing held on the 5th day of July, 1991 with Mr. Douglas Brandon as Chairman together with Mr. Raymund King and Mr. Richard Evans AND UPON DUE CONSIDERATION of the evidence and documents relating to the allegations contained in the Affidavit which accompanied the said application THE COMMITTEE FOUND that Attorney-at-Law Melbourne Silvera is guilty of professional misconduct in that:
- He has acted with inexcusable or deplorable negligence or neglect in the performance of his duties.
- He has not dealt with his client’s business with due expedition.
PURSUANT TO THE FOREGOING FINDINGS the Disciplinary Committee HEREBY ORDERS that Melbourne Silvera, Attorney-at-Law be fined in the sum of $10,000.00 and costs of $2,000.00 to be paid to the complainant, Orville Stephenson. The Committee orders that Mr. Silvera be reprimanded for this misconduct. No order for restitution was made.
