Further to an application made by the Jamaica Bar Association, the Supreme Court has granted an injunction restraining the GLC from exercising its mandate as the Competent Authority for attorneys-at-law pursuant to Section 91A of the Proceeds of Crime (Amendment Act), 2013.
Pending the determination of the constitutional motion, the injunction among other things, exempts attorneys from compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act and the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) Regulations as extended by the Proceeds of Crime (Designated Non-Financial Institution) (Attorneys-at-Law) Order, 2013.
The exemption also applies to section 5(3C) of the Legal Profession Act and the regulations made thereunder.
