Mr. Hylton was appointed chairman of the General Legal Council in December, 2010. Admitted to practice in 1976, Mr. Hylton spent 24 years at Myers, Fletcher & Gordon before being appointed Solicitor General of Jamaica in January 2001. He returned to private practice in 2007.
Mr. Hylton was a member of the General Legal Council between 2001 and 2007 as a representative of the Attorney General and since 2010, as an appointee on the recommendation of the Jamaican Bar Association.
He has also served the legal profession in various other capacities including being a member of the Council and the treasurer of the Jamaican Bar Association, a member of the Rules Committee of the Supreme Court and chairman of the sub-committee primarily responsible for drafting the Civil Procedure Rules 2002.
Mr. Hylton has tutored at the Norman Manley Law School since 1982.
